Fishing Pigeon Lake

Pigeon Lake is part of the Kawartha Lakes, which were named after the city of Kawartha and is located in the province of Ontario. This is a beautiful location in Ontario that is known for tourism as much as sport fishing. There are three lakes in this group, including the Buckhorn Lake, Chemong Lake, and Pigeon Lake. These are all east of Bobcaygeon and are all a part of the Trent-Severn Waterway. The lake is fairly shallow, but the weeds provide a good habitat for many different species of fish.

When fishing Pigeon Lake you can catch panfish, bass, muskie, and walleye. It is easy to troll this lake and find some large fish living among the weeds. There are a few choice places to fish like the Gannon Narrows and the Big Island. While you are trolling along these areas you can hit some weeds but the catches will be well worth it. You can also take part in some shore fishing on the islands, and can catch some decent sized fish there as well. Largemouth bass like to hand out in these grassy areas, and especially enjoy being around several sunken trees that make up the lake’s structure. There are many opportunities to camp along the shore especially on Big Island on the east side. This side of the island is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike, so you want to make sure that you get there early and set up your camp spot. If you do not feel like camping out in the wilderness you can find additional lodging in the town of Bobcaygeon.

If you are interested in catching muskie during your Pigeon Lake fishing trip, you are in luck in this location. Many fishermen report that the muskie they catch weigh between 12 and 20 pounds. When fishing for muskies you should head out in the beginning of the fall months of September and October. If you’re fishing for small and largemouth bass, you’ll be happy with these 2 pound beauties. During the end of summer months, in July and August, are the best time for you to catch these particular fish. Finally, if you are on the hunt for walleye, you can catch them all throughout the year you just have to pay attention to the fishing reports.
