Fishing Lake Nipissing

Lake Nipissing is located in Ontario right between the Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River. This is the third largest lake in the province of Ontario if you do not include the Great Lakes. It is kind of shallow considering its size, but this just provides a lot of sandbars around the shoreline which makes for interesting shore fishing. There are also several islands located within this lake and most of them are protected by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The city of North Bay is not far away, and this is the largest populated area around the lake’s shore. However, there are some additional towns in the outskirts like Callander, but most larger towns are located on the west end of the lake and are Garden Village, Sturgeon Falls, Lavigne and Cache Bay.

Lake Nipissing flows into Lake Huron through the Georgian Bay. Many people choose to fish this lake because it is home to an amazing 40 species of fish. There are a lot of sport fishing guides and locations all throughout the shoreline of the lake. You can fish for smallmouth bass, walleye, pike, and muskie. There are many organizations that choose to stock this lake so there is never a shortage of daily catches. You can look on our website to reference fishing reports and can even find fishing maps for the lake so that you can know where to look for your catch of choice. This lake is named “Big Water” in Algonquin, and many surrounding areas are named the same in honor of this lake. Right down the road is the township of Nipissing as well as Nipissing University. Many fishermen choose to stay in cabins around the lake while they are on their fishing trip, but it is nice to have such a large township located close by.

Lake Nipissing originally was used as a waterway for fur traders, and has now grown into the fishing enterprise that you see today. There are not many lakes that you can travel to which have over 40 species of fish for you to enjoy. There are also many significant animals on the shores like that of beaver, moose, ospreys, turtles, and bald eagles. Whether you want to enjoy the scenery, or score a large catch, Lake Nipissing fishing is for you. When you are finished fishing Lake Nipissing you can head over to the township to find out more rich local history about this location. This location is a must see for any fisherman interested in having the most variety during their fishing trip.
